Corona virus fad: “Information is power”
I’m just having fun observing as to who will take the opportunity to monetize on your panic and ignorance that enables it. Cheap amusement, you could say, free actually — and yet, so priceless.
Hopefully, by the end of this article, you will be just as amused as I am.
As soon as there’s new hot topic available, a bunch of people uses that subject and narrative for their own benefit.
We use hot topics for deliberate marketing. We use special dates like Christmas and New Year and Women’s day — to enhance profit, just as we use viruses to sell more meds and occasionally mountains of toilet paper.
As a society, I mean.
We profit both on Joys and Fears, but somehow it seems more gratifying when others monetize of your sense of Bliss and Love ( remember Valentines day and buying diamonds to confess your undying love “because diamonds are forever”?), with that being somehow OK, and it’s something we rarely feel manipulated by -
…while Fear and Panic — which essentially are also (rather unpleasant, but anyhow- ) simply emotions that we experience.
I suppose you don’t go hiking and camping barefoot, and instead buy a decent set of hiking and camping equipment. Being that we came out of caves at some point, one might think it’s really an exaggeration and you’re over prepared. ’Cause, “God forbid”.
What’s the big deal then?
That’s not malicious, that’s just clever. So, what’s your favorite special occasion? What do you like going off about the most? Tell me what you care about and I will know your spending habits. Including where you spend your time, effort, emotional energy and yes… money.
We also willingly close our eyes and look the other way, but we all know it’s happening, all around us. Look at your feed right this very moment. What are your friends posting about?
Will you tell me that no one offered you a solution? Bragging about how they’ve found THE solution, the best and possibly the only solution. Surely, that must be it.
We live in consumerism culture, that we have created as a society, I suppose just so what we can look at each other surprised and outraged, like we didn’t know what was going on the entire time. Oh my, how was THAT even possible!? How come no one told me?! Riiiiiiiight?
…and another one: “So materialistic!” — as if that also implied — deceitful.
There’s solution for nearly anything you can think of. People have found a way to meet your needs, physical, psychological and emotional. If you don’t really have those needs, then sincerely, I fail to see your point.
Flattery can be equally seductive, as can be facing your deepest existential fears — and none of it, essentially, has to be true.
“The Devil made me do it” mind frame, the trickery, the seduction, the game we play with ourselves, that someone can make us do something we don’t want, by using this or that approach.
What DO we want? What do YOU want? I guess it’s time to be brutally honest with yourself.
Information is power.
But then again everything is information, truth and lies all the same. False information is a power. Sometimes it’s false out of pure ignorance, sometimes out of advantage. Legitimate information is power.
Discernment is everything. Knowing what you want and owning up to your choices is a course that only you can determine.
You decide what you buy into. You decide what you want to believe in.
